Overview: This series is a conglomeration of Fifty Shades and Twilight. A little vampirism, dash of naughty behavior, and the never ending misunderstood love angle. Don't worry, it has a happy ending [haha, literally ;)].
Stepping back from the fact that I really just don't like the story line, I suppose the book has a decent author. The writing style okay, and she manages to cast the characters very well. Descriptive angles are thought out, and casts a different spin on the vampire/human love angle. Even better; there's some action involved as the vampires of this super-elite brotherhood team up against their arch rivals, the Others. The series has a total of ten novels, with an eleventh on the horizon, and I know from experience that the novels tend to drag as the series progress. But this first one is a great way to start out the story line.
As mentioned, definitely not my cup of tea, but if you decide to try it out, let me know what you think!
My mom loves Ward's stuff but all my mom reads is romance really. The closest I've gotten to romance is Nicholas Sparks otherwise I don't really read it.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally not into the mushy love stories either, but I must say, I have read every book in this series excluding the last one that came out. I liked all of them up until about the fourth one, then I got bored. I'm on the tenth book & have been stuck halfway through for ages since she changed the style of writing in it. Way too many flashback scenes in that one to the point where it is just annoying.

Keeping PLUS in a MINUS World
I loved these books, but I love a good romance fantasy novel. I bought the first 8 as a box set, and read the 9th and 10th from the library. By the 10th I was a little bored, but I really loved how well developed these characters were. And I *might* have found myself falling in love a little bit with some of those bad boys!
