A History of My Camera

I've been amazed lately just how much I've grown in my minimal photography capabilities.  Looking back through my thousands [and thousands and thousands] of photos, there is a gigantic difference between when I first bought the Nikon and now.  To give you an idea of the progression, here is a post dedicated to photos taken one year ago and currently.  [All photos have been uploaded the way I originally put them online; some were edited, some not, but none have been retouched specifically for this post to make me seem more awesomer.]

April 2, 2011.  First picture ever taken on the Nikon D5000.

I didn't even start editing photos until the beginning of this year.  Looking back through old photo folders, there is a very common trend; either under or overexposing.  Very very few pictures actually turned out anywhere close to decent.  But this still happens; I take hundreds of photos when I break out my camera, and maybe 10 will be good enough [to me] for sharing.

I feel like I've come a long way from that jump off the stairs.  And I know that I have a long way until I am confident enough in my abilities.  But it does feel good to look back and see how much better I am compared to a year ago!  Do you have any interests that you have to work at?

    1. Thank you! I'm kind of embarrassed at how proud I was of some of my earlier pics. Now, I wouldn't post them anywhere...

    1. Thank you! And believe me, if I were in the area, I would jump on that opportunity. Probably my absolute favorite hobby ever.

  4. I love that pose he's doing in the first picture!!! hahahaha. But yes, you can definitely see the progression. The ladies on the bench was my favorite, not sure why.

Looking over my painting is maybe a little like that I guess, but the difference is that sometimes I'll paint something MIND BLOOWINGGGG and then two weeks later all I can do is stick figures. But I think painting in general isn't very reliable. lol.

I wish you were closer, I've always wanted a photography buddy! None of my friends like it at all.

  6. Your growth is obvious in your journey through photos. I <3 it. Its fun to see the improvement in technique and overall vision.

Would you recommend the Nikon D5000 for a beginner? I have been debating on that one or the Canon Rebel T3i.

    1. I got it as a beginner, and loved it. It's very user friendly, and I'm still growing into it. I debated on the D60 or D90, but someone told me that I might outgrow it too quickly...so the 5000 it was. You should head into a Best Buy or something and try them both out to see which one you like best.
